Our friends at Paul Mitchell have teamed up with the Diana Award charity Stand Up To Bullying to empower young people to tackle bullying in their schools and communities. Way to go! As a people-focussed industry with many youngsters joining hairdressing at 16, direct from school, as well as an important teen clientele, we think it’s important to become aware of the issues – whether they arise, or are discussed, in your salon or workplace, too. Stats issued by Mintel in the USA put the figures as 50% of teens worrying about bullies, and 100% of parents worrying about their teens being bullied. We can bet more than a few of us have come across the issue in our time, but did you know what to do about it? Talking, sharing, lending a kind shoulder for support… all help to some degree.
Established in 1999, The Diana Award is a charity legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have at the power to change the world. The Anti-Bullying Campaign involves a number of different projects including the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors Programme, – training 20,000 young people across the UK to lead on anti-bullying campaigns in their schools. The Paul Mitchell Neon™ brand supports this initiative, and coinciding with the launch of a new product range for teens specifically, has recruited a #NeonSquad to inspire other young people with their anti-bullying stories. ‘Ordinary’ schoolgirls – enjoying a stylish makeover in these pictures – showcase how empowered we can all feel when we’re not alone. Have a look at some of the inspirational material they’ve created, and pay special attention to the poster designed to be displayed in any salon! If you’re keen to know more, then email us… We just know that the #NeonSquad will be delighted with your interest and help. And if you can go some way to changing the outcome for even one young person, now isn’t that worth doing? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org
